Photogs Say Sky Is Falling

From PDN / Photo District News comes word that opposition to the orphan works proposal floated recently by the Copyright Office is growing, among organizations that represent professional photographers. The recording companies have nothing on the photographers when it comes to overblown, apocalyptic copyright rhetoric:

Some photographer groups, however, see this as a nightmare proposal that will blast a huge hole in copyright law. They envision companies trolling the Internet for unclaimed images to resell.

“It will practically make photographs public domain,” says copyright attorney Nancy Wolff, who has studied the proposal on behalf of the Picture Archive Council of America (PACA). A memo from the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) describes it as a “disaster of biblical proportions.”
